Beyond Service: Living Life In Community Alongside Those In The Margins by Jeff Greer & Dustin Cross

There are many services that provide care for the non-housed in our cities, but why is that not enough? Why are there so many that remain on the streets, lacking a connectedness to any adequate loving family and/or community? There is a deep need for a connectedness that services are not providing. There is still so much division that exists between the housed and non-housed, even within service organizations. When will we go beyond the idea of 'serving the homeless' and begin see the non-housed as friends and as equals? How do we go about living life alongside each other in loving, life-giving community?

Cheap Wine, Inconvenience, And The Smell Of Mission with AJ Swoboda

The first miracle in John is not Jesus turning water into wine. It's that Jesus gets invited to a wedding. And goes. Jesus smelled like those he would lay his life down. Yet in a world where mission so easily ensconced in western culture has such a challenging time finding a context for the greater culture of the one preaching. This workshop will examine 'the wedding' as a metaphor for mission in the 21st century. The missional journey transcends the 'cultural colonial' to a greater and more, arguably, Christ-like, 'cultural incarnational' where the missiologist in essence 'smells' like those in their mission field.

The Creative Maladjustment of a Nonconforming Minority: Whistler Society with David Lewis (Falling Whistles)

Though we live in an era saturated with digital activism, irregular and ignorant advocacy efforts are the norm for a generation that has come of age without the necessary relational tools to create change outside of a computer screen. Our goal is to fundamentally shift the way citizens interact with the world around them, starting with small groups of committed individuals who meet regularly to discuss the expansion of political and social freedoms in our world. Come hear of the Whistler Society, a place to transform the noise of individual activism into music. "This hour in history needs a dedicated circle of transformed non-conformists...the saving of our world will come, not through the complacent adjustment of the conforming majority, but through the creative maladjustment of a nonconforming minority." -MLK, Jr.

Power & Servant leadership with MaryKate Morse

Power & Servant Leadership: Servant leadership and the use of power are two fundamental elements of leadership, and yet both are often misunderstood and misapplied. Leadership failures, power struggles, church splits, disgruntled pastors and staff, and quarreling Christians all bear witness to the havoc created by the abuse of power and the lack of true servant leadership. The world watches us and is unimpressed with Christianity. So, what is authentic servant leadership? Is power necessary and if so, what does it look like? Where is power constituted and who is responsible for its use? Can power be experienced and managed? In this workshop we’ll explore these questions and others. We’ll also discuss practical ways a community can serve and lead as Christ.

Relational Intelligence: How Leaders Can Expand Their Influence Through a New Way of Being Smart with Steve Saccone

While many people want to be relationally intelligent, they struggle to understand what it means and how to implement it. In the latest volume in the Leadership Network series, RELATIONAL INTELLIGENCE: How Leaders Can Expand Their Influence Through a New Way of Being Smart, Steve Saccone defines relational intelligence in a clear and provocative way: In essence, the “Relational” part means learning to see people as the highest value and conveying that to them; the "intelligence” part means learning effective interpersonal skills and then applying them in ways that expand one's influence. This session will unpack the “Six Defining Roles of a Relational Genius” that are essential to cultivating relational intelligence in our leadership

Proximity in Mission with Duke Revard

We will seek to ask and answering the question, "How close is close enough?" Looking at the neglected concept of "Incarnation" for ideas on how to engage a walkable/bikeable neighborhood on mission. Seeking to be "in the flesh", local, tangible, intelligible, and approachable for the good of the city. As well as addressing some of the barriers to living and integrated live in modern city.

Serving and Protecting Those Who "Serve and Protect" (How to Build Relationship with Police in Your Neighborhood/City) with Mary Glenn

Serving and Protecting Those Who "Serve and Protect" (How to Build Relationship with Police in Your Neighborhood/City). God is calling the "Church of the City” to be His agent on the front lines of hope. As the Old Testament prophet points out in Jeremiah 29:7, this is called “seeking the welfare (shalom) of the city!” Police in our cities need God's hope. Suicide is the number one killer of officers in the line of duty (this should not be). Officers live lives of service for the good/welfare of the city but who serves and protects them? Jesus is calling us to be instruments of God’s hope to police, caring for law enforcement as they protect our urban streets (like the Apostle Paul cared for his jailers in Acts 16) and partnering with police officers in the work of community transformation. This workshop will facilitate a discussion on what law enforcement does, ways the Church can serve and pursue collaboration with police and what involvement in police chaplaincy might look like.
